Benefit fund established to support Coach Bob Schultz and family

August 21st, 2015

Long-time Central Bucks Gymnastics coach Bob Schultz (a.k.a Bobby Gus or Mr. Bobby) was participating in an annual golf outing with close friends when he suddenly developed acute abdominal pain. He arrived at the local emergency room and was promptly admitted and diagnosed with pancreatitis. Bob is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

The Help Bob Bounce Back Benefit Fund was established to assist Bob and his family with medical expenses not covered by insurance, as well as other expenses resulting from a recent health crisis.

Bob is a beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach and friend. He has coached gymnastics for nearly forty years and is a fixture on local golf courses. As a result, he has an extended family of current and former gymnasts, parents, coaches, golfing buddies and co-workers that number in the thousands.

Please help support Bob and his family during this difficult time by making a gift of any size to the Help Bob Bounce Back Benefit Fund.

Update as of September 16, 2015:

At this point, Bob remains in critical, but stable condition at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

He had been making slow, steady progress until he suffered a serious setback last week that further complicated treatment for the pancreatitis. The medical team discovered an issue in his gastrointestinal tract that required surgery followed by further treatment. This is a setback, but Bob continues to show incredible resilience.

His pancreas is still inflamed. Once the medical team resolves the issue in his gastrointestinal tract they hope to see improvement in his pancreas. In the meantime, Bob remains heavily sedated for comfort and so his body can heal. He still requires assistance with breathing and dialysis.

Treatment and recovery will almost certainly be a very lengthy process, but Bob is and will continue to be surrounded by his family each and every day. Debbie, Jenna, Brad and the rest of Bob’s family are grateful for the ongoing love, support and encouragement.

Update as of August 25, 2015:

At this point, Bob’s condition is critical, but stable. His pancreas is still inflamed. The medical team at Lehigh Valley Hospital is doing everything possible to identify the cause of the inflammation and treat it. The length of time it takes to treat this condition can vary greatly from patient-to-patient. In Bob’s case, it may take quite a while.

The medical team is treating a number of complications resulting from the pancreatitis. He is heavily sedated for comfort and so his body can heal. A ventilator helps regulate his breathing and oxygen levels. Dialysis is helping his kidneys recover from damage sustained as a result of pancreatitis He can’t communicate, but his family constantly talks to him to keep him updated on everything that is going on.

Based on feedback from the medical team, it appears that Bob may have a long and challenging road ahead. Generally, the medical team is confident that he is moving in a positive direction, but it has been a roller coaster ride filled positive steps and setbacks. As you can imagine, this process has been extremely difficult for Debbie, Jenna, Brad and the rest of Bob’s family. They are incredibly grateful for outpouring of love, support and encouragement.
