Beginning on Saturday, January 21, 2023, GymStars instructors will evaluate every gymnast on the skills they’ve been working on throughout the program year so far. The evaluation process will take place over a two-week period. If a gymnast is absent, the instructors will complete the evaluation during a regularly scheduled class following the two-week period. Each week the class will be evaluated on two events. Evaluation results will be available to parents/guardians through the Customer Portal once the process is complete.
Instructors will rate progress based on the following scale:
0 Stars – Not Evaluated | Skill not attempted
1 Star – Attempted | Attempted skill with assistance
2 Stars – Learning | Attempts skill with assistance and is making progress towards mastering it
3 Stars – Mastered | Performs skill safely and consistently without assistance
Gymnasts must master all the skills at any given level before advancing to the next level. Gymnastics is a progressive sport, which means the skills taught in Level I are the building blocks on which more advanced skills taught in Level II classes are based. The same is true for Level II and Level III classes. Our goal is to prepare each gymnast for success at more advanced levels by ensuring they have mastered the basic, fundamental skills at each level before advancing.
Bars is usually the most challenging event. The pullover and back hip circle are particularly difficult skills to master at Level I. It often takes a gymnast more than one year (and in many cases more than two years) to move from one level to the next.
We will contact you when it is time for a gymnast to move up from one level to the next. In the meantime, feel free to contact the Pro Shop at 215-345-0176 or info@cbgym.com if you have questions about the evaluation process or a gymnast’s individual progress. Instructors have limited time to talk with parents between classes, but the customer service staff works closely with the instructional staff to get answers and updates when a parent has questions about an individual gymnast’s progress.
